I would have never thought that I would be writing erotica. When I began writing, I started with contemporary romance. However, I was never confident enough in my abilities. Not to mention, I was too self-conscious to publish any of my works. So, how in the hell did I get from too embarrassed to publish romance to writing erotica?
My Story
It was quite a curvy road. Initially, I began by publishing my first non-fiction book. Non-fiction was less threatening to me than fiction. With fiction, it’s like someone can see into my mind and learn the secrets that I wasn’t willing to share. Whereas with non-fiction, I’m writing about how to help other people do a specific thing. For me, giving advice is a natural part of my everyday life.
After publishing numerous non-fiction books, I finally felt confident enough to submit that first fiction work into the vast world wide web. Guess what? It wasn’t that threating. Hitting publish felt pretty good.
Then, one day, I was in a Facebook group filled with writers when someone mentioned writing erotic, and a lightbulb went off. I was excited to see if I could tell a story with few words and still have it be something that had more depth than an article in a skin magazine. It was an adrenaline rush to write an entire story in one day versus the two or three months it took to write a novel. In the end, I was addicted!
